Traveling the Hill Country With Leah Hodges
What a fun weekend I had traveling the Hill Country! I have to admit I was slightly leery of going with my husband this weekend. You see, he is in the Tejas Miata Club of Austin. A couple of times a month he goes on a “Miata Run” with the club. I normally do not join him for a couple of reasons. 1.) I am not a morning person especially on the weekends unless I have to work. He will leave before the rooster’s crow on a Saturday or Sunday morning to do a run. 2.). I love our Miata, however, I get car sick very easily especially in the small close to the ground cars. On these said runs the club likes to find the curviest backroads. 3.) I do have to work a lot on the weekends showing homes so I miss out on the fun. Anyway, this particular weekend I decided to go. I was so ready to be outside in the open not in isolation because of COVID. The club started on a run Saturday morning. We decided to meet them in Kerrville, TX on Saturday afternoon where Sunday morning run would start.
Celebrating our Wedding Anniversary in the Hill Country!
My husband and I have a 15th anniversary coming up on the 20th of this month, so we just planned on celebrating this weekend by spending the day together, hitting a winery in Kerrville. Which by the way,
was the bomb! Kerrville Hills Winery. The Viognier was delicious! The winery has beautiful grounds up on the hill in Kerrville. Even though it was sweltering Saturday, there was a nice breeze to sit on the porch to relax and enjoy a bottle of wine. I highly recommend you trying out this winery! Anyway, after, a fun day together, we met up with several couples from the club at the YO Ranch Hotel in Kerrville. It is an older hotel but immaculate and comfortable accommodations.
On the Twisty Windy Road in our Miata!

After, a super fun evening with friends we got up early the next morning and started out on our Miata run. Let me tell you…wow…it was fun! We drove a couple of hours out through Leakey, TX up in the hills. Lots of twists and turns! It was great and at 8 am the weather was perfect for the top to be down on the car. After a fun run with the club, we made it back to Kerrville to Mamacita’s for a late lunch. To my surprise, I did not get car sick UNTIL it got hot and we had to put the top up on the car around 11:30 am. UGH…not so great after that but I survived and I will definitely be going on more Miata runs with my husband and crew. I can’t wait for the weather to be cool in October; when we hit the open road in the Hill country for another run.
Bottom Line
I know COVID has been difficult on so many and we are all so tired of being stuck at home. I highly recommend getting out and seeing the beautiful sites of Texas. You don’t have to go far but a nice drive in the Hill Country is a perfect getaway. We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful country when peace and tranquility are just a few miles away!
