Spruce Up Your Home With Three Steps
By: Sierra Brown
The simplest most effective way to spruce up your home is to declutter.
As a busy mom of two, our home usually gets cluttered quickly. After a thorough cleaning session a few weeks later 2 tables were full of random cords, toys, extra napkins, you name it. So, after a few too many weeks of looking at this mess, I call home, I decided to spruce up the house by decluttering.
There are many benefits to having a decluttered home. Most importantly for busy go-getters, having your home free of clutter makes it easier to clean. Not having to sort through the mess to find what you need saves you time. With less stuff usually comes fewer worries. Also, decluttering can give you a sense of confidence when you look at your home. There are three steps I took to declutter the home that I recommend.
First, I created a list of tasks I wanted to get done and assigned some smaller kid-friendly tasks to my little ones. If lists are not your thing, maybe just a mental note of some steps to take to clear your space. Decluttering your home also tends to declutter your mind.
Next, I started with one area organizing the mess into piles of like items. This helped me determine what needed to go where. After putting those items away, the area looked so much bigger.
Lastly, I emptied my sink, did the dishes, and cleared the countertops in my kitchen. If you have countertop appliances you haven’t used in a while, you may consider storing them in the cabinet below. This will give you more counter space to utilize daily.
Kid-friendly task ideas: Wiping down countertops, putting laundry away, and spot mopping with a Swiffer. I gave each child a pair of gloves for cleaning. Folding laundry is still an unmastered task but putting away clothes seems to be easy enough for them. Also, I felt they weren’t ready to use a regular mop without flooding the floor, so the Swiffer seemed to be the best option.
Following these simple steps should help declutter your home which helps make it easier to clean next time.
