Miller Springs Nature Center
By: Sierra Petty
Each hike is a new adventure! The same trail leads to so many different paths that you can explore.
There are about three different entrances to Miller Springs Nature Center. One leads to a boating area, one to campgrounds, and the other to hiking trails. I personally haven’t explored the campgrounds or boating areas, but the hiking trails are beautiful. Unlike some hiking trails in Texas, this trail has lush greenery practically everywhere all year round. At Miller Springs there are over 10 miles of hiking trails, picnic areas, and even fishing areas. There are so many sights to explore so I’ll list just a few of my favorites.
First, a huge wooden deck looks out to an open field surrounded by trees. Since there are so many different trails I always tend just to find it along the way. The hike up to it is relatively steep with rocks and roots at your feet.
Another great find along the trail is a wooden bench tucked away on one of the hills that looks out on a small waterfall if it has rained recently. This area is perfect to sit, disconnect from the chaos of life, and just breathe in the fresh air. The path to this bench is actually great for jogging because it doesn’t have too many loose rocks or debris.
Lastly, the best spot I found is a huge rock close to the edge of a cliff that looks out onto another open field. The rock is large enough and flat enough to seat a few people for a picnic. A picnic after a long hike is great!
I would definitely recommend taking more than one hiking, jogging, and or biking trips to Miller Springs Nature Center. It’s hard to experience everything in just one visit. Also, if you do enjoy camping or boating you should check out those areas as well. A plethora of adventures are waiting to be had in Belton, TX at Miller Springs Nature Center.
