Brazos East Disc Golf Course
By: Sierra Petty
Grab your discs, backpacks, water, and hiking boots to the Brazos East Disc Golf Course.
For those unfamiliar with the sport, Disc Golf is basically like playing golf except with frisbees. These frisbees or discs are specially designed to be thrown at different distances, just as there are different types of golf clubs. The three types of discs are the driver, the mid-range, and the putter. The driver can be thrown over 400 hundred feet. The midrange disc is usually used when a player is more than halfway to the basket. A putter is used when a player is right next to the basket. Even though there are only 3 different types of discs, there are hundreds upon thousands of disc brands to choose from that all fly differently. Once you have your discs chosen, you should check out the beautiful disc golf course in Waco, Texas.
The first 5 holes or baskets are beginner friendly. When you move past those, the holes get exceedingly more challenging. Squirrels frequent the course and can be seen scurrying about while you play or hike the area. Soaking in the beauty of the park is enough reason to keep attempting to get a disc into the basket or just sit to enjoy. Along the first portion of the course, there is a sidewalk if you’d rather go for a stroll instead.
Once you get to what is called the “back nine” there are no more sidewalks, just trails that have seen many adventures. The trees crowd together on either side of the trail which makes it a challenge for disc golf players as the strategy in throwing must change to accommodate for the brush. The course is beautiful and definitely worth going out to explore whether it’s with discs or just your hiking/strolling gear.
